Each summer we work with volunteers to grow organic vegetables and distribute them to communities that do not have regular access to quality vegetables. Volunteers who work with us have access to taking vegetables home as well.
We are currently in the process of getting our garden at the Loyola campus up and running for the 2008 summer season. At the moment we've got seedlings growing in the Concordia rooftop greenhouse, we're working the compost and we are establishing new beds to plant in. We will begin planting near the end of May. If you are interested in volunteering to work in the garden send an email to our group list potatogarden@googlegroups.com. We will let you know when we are working and will inform you of special events we have planned for the garden. We welcome everyone regardless of level of experience in gardening. If you have any special skills you would like to put to work let us know.
The People’s Potato is a vegan soup kitchen at Concordia University - a student initiated project that was founded in 1999 in order to address student poverty. We offer by donation meals each day of the week during the Fall and Winter semesters. We serve more than 400 meals daily to students, community members with the help of our dedicated volunteers. We are committed to educating about healthy cooking and food politics and to broader goals of social and environmental justice.
